A Raw, Riveting LGBTQ+ Memoir About Queer Survival and Southern Identity

Notes from a Sissy is a darkly funny and unflinchingly honest queer memoir by Waymon Hudson — a late-deafened gay man who came of age in the conservative Deep South. Blending biting humor with gut-punch truth, the memoir dives into childhood trauma, queer identity, survival, and self-discovery. With stories that range from glitter-covered rebellion to heartbreaking introspection, Notes from a Sissy has struck a chord with readers around the world . Now in submission to top literary agents and publishers, Notes from a Sissy is poised to become a breakout memoir for anyone who’s ever felt silenced — and ready to speak.

What is Notes from a Sissy About?

Waymon was a little Southern sissy with big feelings, a VHS of Showgirls, and no clue how to survive boyhood.

Told through raw, funny vignettes, Notes from a Sissy explores what it means to grow up queer in a world that demands silence. From Pentecostal church plays and Barbie dolls to trauma, abuse, and queer defiance, this is a story of survival — and the power of reclaiming your voice.

Why I Wrote This Memoir — and Why It’s Striking a Nerve

I wrote Notes from a Sissy because I spent years surviving a world that wanted me silent. As a late-deafened, queer kid from the South, I couldn’t find stories that sounded like mine — so I wrote the one I needed most.

It’s for anyone who’s felt too much, said too little, or fought like hell just to exist.

It’s my heart on the page — glitter, grief, and all.

The response so far:

  • Perfect for fans of Augusten Burroughs, Samantha Irby, and Saeed Jones.
